Transitional Studies Students students in need of a laptop for school can rent one for free. Programs under the Transitional Studies are English as a Second Language, Career in Academic Preparation and Jumpstart.
You can pick one up at the library, but make sure you get there early in the quarter, they’re handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis. Also be prepared to fill out some paperwork.
In the program’s second quarter, Emily Castle, transitional studies division operations supervisor says student feedback has been positive. Students said the resource helped them because many of their assignments are online.
Due to a special grant, ESL laptops were replaced by newer ones. The older laptops were repurposed to be loaned out only to Transitional studies students.
“All together there are 30 laptops that students could rent out,” Castle said.
Fall term there were 26 laptops rented out and Winter term almost all of the laptops are already rented out. At the time of the interview, there were only three laptops left available.
“It seems like it is a well used resource,” Castle said. The word is getting out more and more teachers are letting their students know. It was nice that we were able to have that resource and use it for that.”
