$200,000 Grant for Clark Mechatronics Program

The National Science Foundation granted Clark $200,000 for a Rural Access Mechatronics Program on April 7.

Students enrolled in the program will make limited visits to the Clark campus, and the rest of the training will take place online.  Mechatronics instructor and grant co-author Ken Luchini said this will allow students who don’t live close to campus access to a Mechatronics degree.

Mechatronics combines elements of electrical, computer, control and mechanical engineering.

Luchini said the idea came about after lack of state funding and a decrease in enrollment.
“This grant will open the door for other grant opportunities to help lessen the financial burden on students,” Luchini said.
