Award Winning Native American Comic Book Artist Visits Clark

The Native American Culture Club, the Manga and Anime Club and the Art Club are sponsoring a presentation from an award winning comic book artist Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in PUB 161.

Marvel comic book artist Jeffrey Veregge will give a presentation about his experience as a Native American artist, according to Native American Club President Alvia Begay.

Veregge is a member of the Port Gamble S’Klallam tribe and was raised on the reservation most of his life. A graduate from the Art Institute of Seattle, Veregge has been working as a designer and studio manager the past 10 years for an agency that specializes in non-profits, according to his website.

Recently Veregge has also worked on the revival of Red Wolf, Marvel’s only Native American superhero comic. Red Wolf made its debut in the early 1970s and ran for about three years, as reported by the Seattle Times.

This will be the first time Veregge has visited Clark. The event is free and open to students and community members, Begay said.

“I like seeing we’re not just in the past,” Begay said. “Native Americans are doing great things presently.”
