A Walk With Trees

The Clark College Tree Committee and the Vancouver Urban Forestry Program held the first winter Tree Identification Walk on campus Jan. 30 at 10 a.m.

Seventeen master gardeners, experienced urban volunteers, and Clark College Tree Committee members studied 15 deciduous trees in the two-hour workshop.

The study focused on the trees’ bark, branch habits and key flower characteristics. Each attendee filled out an “Evergreen vs. Deciduous” handbook with categories and descriptions of each tree.

“The goal of this workshop is to provide the residents an understanding, and to teach stewardship so people see trees for their benefits,” Vancouver Urban Forestry Outreach coordinator Jessica George said.

The Clark College campus progresses in tree planting, protecting and educating each year with the Environmental Club and Outdoor and Recreation Club involvement.
