A popcorn fire in Gaiser Hall caused a multi-building evacuation on Tuesday at roughly 12:10 p.m.
Gaiser Hall, Cannell Library and the Penguin Union Building were all evacuated after a small popcorn fire occurred in the Student Game Room, according to security officers.
According to the Environmental Health and Safety Manager, Jeffery Miller, the buildings are connected via the same fire alarm system.
The evacuation lasted from approximately 12:06 p.m. until 12:30 p.m. “Most of the students were outside by the time I exited the building,” Miller said.
Miller said Emergency Building Managers were in charge of final evacuation sweeps throughout the buildings. They were seen by Miller and security officers at approximately 12:16 p.m.
According to Miller, the fire trucks were called off after security officers realized the cause of the fire.
