The women’s basketball team travels to Coos Bay, Oregon, to face the Southwestern Oregon Lakers on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Penguins are coming off of a decisive 58-49 win at Mt. Hood Community College and are 9-5 overall this season, sitting at fourth in the southern division of the NWAC. The Lakers are 8-7 and are fifth in the division of nine teams.
“We were a little rough, but we got the win,” said head coach Al Aldridge. “Defensively we did a great job. We didn’t shoot the ball very well today, but we improved in that area a lot in the second half.”
With a young roster of only three sophomores and eight freshmen, Aldridge said the team has been making “freshmen mistakes.”
“They’ve had to get used to new expectations,” he said. “There’s nothing that takes the place of sophomore leadership.”
