The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship will be awarding 750 students with grants ranging from $2,500-$7,500 for 2015-2016.
The application for the scholarship is available until March 2 on the WSOS website. A short essay is required in the application.
“We want to know the students inspiration of why they got into the field they’ve chosen,” said Theresa Britschgi, the program director for STEM support services at WSOS. “We look for students who this grant could make the greatest impact with.”
According to their website, WSOS was created by the Washington Legislature in 2011 in response to rising tuition. The program consists of public-private partnerships with companies such as Boeing and Microsoft.
The program is designed to support low and middle income students while they are working toward majors in science, technology, engineering, math and/or health care.
