Archer Gallery is full — 127 pieces created by 75 students.
Students, faculty and members of the community gathered in the gallery for the opening of the Art Student Annual, May 14.
According to Clark’s website, the gallery highlights artwork including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, photography, painting, metal arts, time-based art, animation and sculpture. All artwork is submitted by students who created their work for Clark courses from Spring 2013-14.
Clark student Mariah Lewis won an award for her self-portrait paintings. She said she wanted to create “someone who looks like me but isn’t me.” Describing her paintings, Lewis said, “I was more like a prostitute, someone’s mistress.”
The winners are decided by the entire art department at Clark. Art professor Senseney Stokes said the final decision is made by herself, Kathrena Halsinger, Lisa Conway, Grant Hottle and Sally Woodward.
The reception followed the release of the 2014 Phoenix in the Fireside Lounge. According to gallery director, Carson Legree, the Phoenix is available in Frost Arts Center, Hanna Hall room 111 and Archer Gallery.
The exhibit is open until June 7. The gallery is open Tuesdays through Thursdays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
