Every Friday, O’Connell Sports Center hosts free intramural basketball from noon to 1 p.m. for all enrolled students.
Intramural Program Director Garet Studer said classes and athletic practices make it difficult to get open gym time.
“This was the one hour a week when we could fit it in,” Studer said. “People are excited about being here and excited to play basketball.”
Programs like intramural sports support student retention, Studer said. When students join extracurricular programs like intramural sports or clubs, “They are more likely to stay in school and complete their degree because they go to school and they enjoy some of those activities they take part in.”
