Second Day of George Floyd Protests Continue in Portland

Early afternoon on Saturday May 30 protesters gathered again at Chapman Square in downtown Portland.  For the second day in a row people amassed in honor of George Floyd who died in police custody on May 26.

Organizers spoke to crowds through megaphones and people marched with signs to the Multnomah County Justice Center.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler enacted a curfew of 8 p.m., though the Police declared the gathering an unlawful assembly by 6:45pm and promptly dispersed the crowd with tear gas canisters and mace. By 7:15 p.m. they announced that Chapman Square was closed and ordered all persons to disperse.

Smaller groups then broke off and continued skirmishes with police throughout the evening. At least 48 people were arrested.
