On June 18, Clark College will have a virtual graduation ceremony to celebrate the class of 2020.
Family and friends will be able to watch on Clarks commencement webpage while social distancing.
Clark will be pre-recording a slideshow that will go live on Thursday, June 18 at 6:30 pm. Michelle Golder, the event services manager in charge of this years ceremony, said the slideshow is a safer option than a service like Zoom.
“It was determined that doing a live virtual ceremony would be leaving the fate up to the cooperation of technology and would be unpredictable,” Golder said.
Each graduate will have their own customized commencement slide with their name and honor status if applicable. Students can also upload their own photo, thank you note, or favorite quote to further customize their slide.
Golder said that although Clark’s graduates are appreciative of the alternative ceremony, they are disappointed they will not receive a traditional ceremony. There are around 370 students enrolled in the graduation program right now, less than last year’s class.
The class of 2020 was invited to celebrate their graduation for a second time, in person, next year during the class of 2021’s ceremony.
“We understand nothing can replace the excitement and pride graduates receive walking across the stage,” Golder said. “We hope the class of 2020 will mark their calendars for Thursday, June 18 and get the standing ovation they truly deserve.”
