Stage Manager, Designer and Clark College director Mark Owsley is holding auditions for Clark’s next theater production, “A View from the Bridge.” Auditions are being held on Sept. 27 and 28 at 6:30 p.m. in Decker Theatre.
Owsley said the cast is composed of mostly students and there are no age requirements. “Casting a show is more than just taking a character and putting a name on that character, it’s creating an ensemble of interesting people,” Owsley said.
Owsley advised all students who plan on auditioning to be themselves, instead of “trying to do what they think the director wants.”
Along with keeping the cast diverse, Owsley said he strives to make the theatrical works they perform relevant to recently occurring social issues. “I tend to see the play more as an emotional jealousy triangle, but there’s such an immigration subplot that’s really relevant to what’s going on today,” Owsley said.
Owsley said he is not just looking for the best actors, but also for students who work well with each other. “Regardless of political or social positions, what I hope for the cast is that we are able to come to the same place without judgement, and we learn from each other about what this play is telling us,” he said.
Owsley said he intends to have a cast list announced by the Friday after auditions. The opening night of the show is Friday Nov. 3 and will continue throughout that weekend and the following weekends of Nov. 10 and 17.
