With playoff hopes on the line, Clark’s baseball team travels to face conference matchup Linn-Benton Community College in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
The Penguins went 1-1 Friday afternoon, beating Linn-Benton 7-2 in the first game and losing 3-7 in the second.
Clark’s right-handed starter, Chase Vanek, pitched a complete game, throwing only one earned run and six strikeouts. Vanek allowed only three hits to keep the Roadrunners’ bats quiet, who only scored two runs.
Rian Bassett started the second game, but did not fare as well. He gave up four hits, one earned run and five unearned, just through the beginning of the third inning.
Clark’s offense couldn’t catch the stride they had in game one. The Penguins’ bats brought home just three runs, compared to seven in the first game.
Clark is in a three-way tie for a playoff seed with Linn-Benton and Chemeketa Community College. This puts the pressure on Chris Carns, who will take to the mound for the Penguins during the first game, and Zach Torson, who will follow in the second game. Clark will travel to Albany, Oregon, to play at Linn-Benton for this double header.
