Poetry From Prison to Connect Community

From prison walls to Clark’s halls, poems from inmates of the Oregon State Penitentiary will be read at the Free Minds Poetry Workshop on May 9 at 5 p.m. in PUB 161.

Participants will be reading and giving feedback on 12 to 15 poems from prisoners.

The event is a pilot program called On The Same Page UNITED from the non-profit company Free Minds, based in Washington D.C. Clark writing instructor and event organizer Karyn-Lynn Fisette said this will be the first activity of its kind in the Northwest.

“This gives the inmates a greater sense of humanity,” Fisette said. “People become more compassionate when we share these experiences.”

This event is free and open to the public.
