The Diversity Center held a student panel to discuss inequality on campus on Feb. 10 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Gaiser 213.
Five student-panel speakers discussed issues such as marginalization, under-representation of LGBTQ students, the value of social justice courses like women’s studies and the recent push for gender neutral bathrooms.
The event was organized and moderated by Multicultural Retention Manager Felis Peralta, who started the quarterly panel five years ago.
“I felt like we needed to have a safer place to have these conversations,” Peralta said.
Around 30 people attended, most of whom were instructors and faculty members. Several members of ASCC also attended, including the Activity Programing Board Awareness Event Coordinator, Victoria Fidkevich.
Fidkevich said she believes Clark is trying to push for a more diverse and welcoming campus, but admits that the school isn’t perfect.
“I think there are a lot of things we could do better.”
