Clark College is building a Team Penguin for Portland’s 2016 Shamrock Run to raise money for a scholarship created in memory of a former faculty member.
The race along Waterfront Park takes place on the morning of March 13. Once the team has 75 participants, the Shamrock Run Portland organization will donate $5 of each participant’s entry fee towards the Clark College Foundation’s Alex Montoya memorial scholarship.
Montoya was a former dean of Enrollment Services who was killed in 2011.
“We do this to keep his legacy and what he was to education here alive,” said Team Penguin coordinator Joe Jenkins.
This is their fourth year running as Team Penguin. Participants receive a t-shirt and free beer at the finish line.
