In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Clark College will welcome a professor from the University of Puget Sound to deliver a keynote address on Jan. 20 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Gaiser Student Center.
Dr. Michael Benitez Jr. is a national social justice educator and speaks to colleges across the nation on these subjects. Aside from his seminars, Benitez serves as the Dean of Diversity and Inclusion and is the Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Puget Sound.
Clark’s Multicultural Retention Manager, Felis Peralta, expects roughly 250 attendees including students, faculty and other community members across Washington.
“Currently in the United States, and especially in the education system, we need to have some sort of dialogue around [social justice] and that is Michael Benitez’s speciality,” Peralta said.
Peralta hopes that this event will display what King was striving for: equality.
