The Clark Penguins defeated the Linfield Wildcats Junior Varsity in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday at Kindsfather Field.
The first game was decided in the second inning when Clark scored four runs in four at-bats. The Wildcats flirted with victory in the ninth inning when they scored 3 runs, but the late surge was enough to win. The final score was 5-3 Clark.
The second game of the double header saw Linfield jump to 2-0 lead by the end of the fourth inning, only to lose the lead in the sixth inning on a series of errors by the Wildcat infield. Clark won 4-2.
“It’s good to get back on track with the team,” said Clark freshman outfielder Kory Gonzalez. “Everyone came out and played hard today.”
These wins snap a four game losing streak for the Penguins, and bring their record to 11-15.
“Winning is a routine, and winning is a mindset and I think once you get a couple wins it changes your approach,”said Clark Head Coach Brett Neffendorf after the game. “I think what we did today to get on the winning band wagon is what we need before we go back into conference play next week.”
