Clark Men Advance to NWAC Title Game

By Katie Patton in Sports

Clark’s men’s basketball team is moving on to face the 24-5 Edmonds Tritons in the Northwest Athletic Conference Championship tomorrow at 8 p.m.

The Penguins beat the Green River Gators 55-41 on Monday night in the semi-finals. Clark’s Bryan Berg and Antony Dunn both lead the team with 10 points each.

“We talked about coming out stronger at the half,” Dunn said. “And that’s what we did. Now we get to move on.”

The Penguins ended the first-half leading 27-21. Clark forward Hayden Hall led the team with six points in the first-half, finishing the game with nine points.

“We didn’t come out offensively like we wanted to,  Hall said. “But we sure showed up with our defense and held them to 21 in the first half.”

The Gators had 20 turnovers and shot 34.9 percent, while Clark had only 14 and shot 44.7 percent.

“It wasn’t our prettiest performance,” said Head Coach Alex Kirk. “But we played hard out there. These guys gave a great effort and came out on top.”

The Penguins have faced the Gators twice this season, splitting the series 1-1.

Clark’s largest lead of the night came in the second half 49-27. The Penguins held their opponents to 27 points for almost 6 minutes.

Edmonds took down the Peninsula Pirates 69-57 on Monday night. The Tritons are the number one seed out of the North Region and averaged 84.16 points per game this year.

“I’m looking for the same outcome for tomorrow,” Kirk said. “The Penguins are coming back to play hard.”
