Penguins Take On Centralia

By Josh Brody in Sports

Clark’s basketball teams are battling the Centralia Trailblazers tonight. The women’s game is at 6 p.m. and the men play at at 8 p.m. in O’Connell Sports Center.

The previous encounter with the Trailblazers ended the season of second-year guard Shantell Jackson with a torn ACL and meniscus.

“It was the championship game against Centralia and there was 13 seconds left on the clock. I was driving baseline on the left side [of the court], and I was cutting back too strong and my knee was still going baseline and I heard it pop,” Jackson said.

Both Clark teams are coming from impressive wins at Grays Harbor with three-game win streaks under their belts.

Clark’s men’s basketball team is 11-5 and is tied for first in the NWAC West Region. Centralia is 2-14 and in last place in the West. Still, Head Coach Alex Kirk said the Penguins will need to be on their guard.

“Centralia is known for its patience,” Kirk said. “They don’t score a whole lot, but they are know to lull their opponents into their tempo. The key will be to start the game with high energy and force them into playing at our tempo.”

The Lady Penguins will be challenging a 16-2 Centralia team that is tied for first in the West. Clark is currently 9-4 and in third place.

Penguin athletics will be providing halftime entertainment featuring a local unicycle act.
