By Kenneth Zummach in Campus

Clark College will celebrate Arbor Day today at 11 a.m. on the lawn in front of the chime tower.

The college will receive a fourth consecutive Tree Campus USA Award in recognition for its commitment to maintaining and growing its collection of trees.

Clark Facilities Services will also unveil a new online map which highlights various species of trees around campus with pictures and locations of specific trees.

Tim Carper, a Clark College instructional and classroom support technician and member of the Campus Tree Advisory Committee, said he hopes the map will help people understand the importance of urban trees and their of impact on issues like water run-off.

According to a recent survey, Clark has more than 1,500 trees on campus of which more than half are evergreens.
